Donohue is a visionary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe was one of the very first leaders to recognize that 90% of military occupations are directly transferrable to the private sector,\u201d said U.S. Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Suzanne P. Clark. \u201cIt\u2019s why he helped found Hiring Our Heroes. Clark, President &amp; CEO, U.S. Chamber of Commerce<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On November 15, Donohue received the President\u2019s Award for Lifetime Achievement at the 13<sup>th<\/sup> Annual Lee Anderson Hiring Our Heroes Awards Gala. The event, presented by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boozallen.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Booz Allen Hamilton<\/a>, took place at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year\u2019s theme was \u201cCommitment to Service,\u201d which aligned seamlessly with Donohue\u2019s guiding principle of \u201cif you can help, you must,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uschamber.com\/bio\/eric-eversole\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hiring Our Heroes President Eric Eversole<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe number of lives Tom has impacted is countless,\u201d Eversole said. \u201cTom has been a role model to many of us. Now, he is an advisor to the organization and a member of its board of directors.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During his tenure, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uschamber.com\/bio\/thomas-j-donohue\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Donohue reinvigorated the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation<\/a>, which houses Hiring Our Heroes (HOH). Under Donohue\u2019s leadership, HOH partnered with Capital One to launch the Hiring 500,000 Heroes campaign. Through this initiative, more than 2,000 businesses of all sizes and industries hired more than 500,000 veterans and military spouses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTom has always had a special place in his heart for our military, and he made it his personal mission to connect veterans and military families with the American business community,\u201d Clark said. \u201cHis passion and dedication are why Hiring Our Heroes has helped more than one million veterans and military spouses find jobs over the past 12 years.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8216;Resiliency. Work Ethic. Veterans Have It All&#8217; <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During his remarks, Donohue spoke about the need for Hiring Our Heroes during its launch in 2011 and its continued relevancy for both military community job seekers and corporations in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe most important challenge business leaders face right now is finding good people,\u201d Donohue said. Military veterans are the \u201cgood people.\u201d &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cResiliency. Work ethic. Top-notch training. The ability to keep going under pressure. Veterans have it all in spades,\u201d Donohue said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Donohue outlined the current military recruitment challenges. He provided solutions for the U.S. Department of Defense and corporate America. He strongly emphasized how lucrative post-military employment opportunities may incentivize young Americans to serve in the Armed Forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHiring Our Heroes is a win-win-win. The veteran wins. The company wins. And you know, who else wins? The United States military and, therefore, the United States of America wins because we are creating a situation that makes it more attractive for young men and women to join the services of the United States,\u201d Donohue said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Additional 2023 Award Recipients<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Along with the President\u2019s Award for Lifetime Achievement, Hiring Our Heroes recognized additional individuals and organizations committed to serving and supporting military veterans and their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Retired U.S. Army officer<strong> Tom Downs,<\/strong> principal and director of Diversity Talent Acquisition and Talent Pipeline Programs at Booz Allen, was selected from among four finalists for the Colonel Michael Endres Leadership Award for Individual Excellence in Veteran and Military Spouse Employment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I am humbled and honored to be recognized with this award by Hiring Our Heroes.&nbsp; Veterans helping other veterans and military spouses is a true passion of mine,&#8221; Downs said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hiringourheroes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Tom-Downs-HOH-award.jpg\" alt=\"Tom Downs\" class=\"wp-image-6603\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hiringourheroes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Tom-Downs-HOH-award.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.hiringourheroes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Tom-Downs-HOH-award-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>TransForce<\/strong> was recognized with the Lee Anderson Veteran and Military Spouse Employment Award for overall excellence in hiring and&nbsp;retaining&nbsp;veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prudential Financial presented <strong>Johnson &amp; Johnson<\/strong> with the Steve Robinson Post-9\/11 Veteran Employment Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Deloitte Consulting<\/strong> received the Military Spouse Employment and Mentoring Award, presented by USAA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Military Community Nonprofit Leadership Award, presented by Deloitte Consulting, was given to&nbsp;<strong>VetJobs and Military Spouse Jobs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>SteerBridge<\/strong> received the Capital One Small Business Award at this year\u2019s gala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Each year, Hiring Our Heroes recognizes the contributions of individuals and organizations at its annual awards gala.
