Frequent moves, resume gaps, and limited local networks can make finding stable work difficult. These obstacles were all too familiar for Army spouse Belinda Eta-Ndo.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each relocation meant starting over for Belinda. During her most recent move, she had no choice but to resign when her job could not shift to a remote position. Belinda\u2019s job search stalled as employers overlooked her skills, focusing instead on gaps in her work history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-finding-resources-and-support\"><strong>Finding Resources and Support <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But Belinda did not give up. She turned to resources built for the military community and found Hiring Our Heroes (HOH). With HOH\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hiringourheroes.org\/resources\/resume-elevator-pitch-essentials-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">resume workshops<\/a> and career guidance, Belinda learned how to highlight her strengths and translate her experience into marketable skills. She focused on qualities shaped by military life: adaptability, time management, and problem-solving.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through HOH\u2019s free <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hiringourheroes.org\/career-services\/education-networking\/career-forward\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Career Forward<\/a> program, Belinda completed a Google Career Certificate in project management, which strengthened her qualifications and opened new career paths. HOH\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hiringourheroes.org\/career-services\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Career Connectors<\/a> helped Belinda identify roles that matched her experience and goals, and HOH <a href=\"https:\/\/events.hiringourheroes.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hiring fairs<\/a> connected her with employers who understood the value of military spouses.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-landing-a-career-that-moves-with-her-nbsp\"><strong>Landing a Career That Moves With Her<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Belinda\u2019s breakthrough came when she landed a remote position with <a href=\"https:\/\/business.optum.com\/en\/federal-government\/about-optum-serve\/veteran-careers.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Optum<\/a> Financial, a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t just a job. It was the beginning of a stable career that could move with me wherever life took us,\u201d she said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt wasn\u2019t just a job. It was the beginning of a stable career that could move with me wherever life took us.\u201d<\/p>\n<cite>Belinda Eta-Ndo<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The role gave her the flexibility and stability she had been seeking.
